Who We Are
The Guyana Women Miners Organization (GWMO) is a non-governmental organization committed to ensuring that women are able to access, participate in, and benefit equitably from Guyana’s mineral resources; the patrimony of all Guyanese.
We work across the mining ecosystem, supporting women at every level, from operators and service providers to those navigating informal systems; many of whom remain unseen, unprotected, and underserved. Our work addresses the social, economic, environmental, and safety conditions that shape the lives of women, their families, and their communities.

What We Stand For
What We Do
01
Advocacy & Policy Engagement
We give voice to women in mining by advocating for equitable policies, representation in decision-making bodies, and reform in systems governing the mining industry and social services sector.
02
Training & Economic Development
We deliver technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial training to support women in building income-generating opportunities within and beyond mining.
03
Protection & Support Services
We provide support for women affected by abuse, trafficking, and exploitation; including rescue, advocacy, referrals, reintegration or relocation support and access to safe interventions.
04
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
We conduct sensitisation initiatives addressing sexual harassment, safety, and human rights, while working alongside government and partners to strengthen community systems.
An equitable mining sector is not aspirational - it is necessary.
Women’s inclusion in mining is not a peripheral issue, it is structural. GWMO is committed to ensuring the sector evolves accordingly, with equity, dignity, and shared prosperity at its core.
